The CubedHost Operations team has scheduled a maintenance window for Los Angeles, CA to upgrade the hardware selection in the region, improve overall network connectivity, and increase service capacity. Due to the migration to new hardware and network, it is expected to see a loss of service and network connectivity for a few hours while this takes place.
The following details outlines the scheduled maintenance window.
Date & Time: Wednesday, April 22nd, 2020 @ 10AM CDT / 8AM PDT
Affected Nodes: All Los Angeles, CA infrastructure (nodes 1 - 4)
Anticipated Duration: 2 - 4 hours of service interruption
Potential After-Effects: 12 - 24 hours of impacted network connectivity
During this migration, we will be taking every precaution possible to expedite the migration of services and minimize downtime while we coordinate with our datacenter. In the unlikely event that network connectivity is impacted for a prolonged period, it is more likely to see higher latency on a temporary basis, usually no more than 24 hours.
Regarding the hardware upgrade, the following specifications are powering the existing LAX infrastructure: Intel Xeon E3-1240v6, 2x 512GB SATA3 SSDs.
LAX will be the second of many of our US-based locations to receive the following new hardware: Intel Xeon E-2236, 2x 512GB NVMe SSDs.
The E-2236 has roughly a ~20-22% single-thread performance increase based on public CPU benchmarks compared to the E3-1240v6. Additionally, the swap from SATA to NVMe SSDs alone will show improvement to world loading/saving.
To better benefit this change, if you haven't already, we'd highly recommend using Paper as opposed to vanilla Minecraft or Spigot, if possible for your server.
