Plugins are very popular amongst server owners as they help enhance the game without adding additional steps required for players to join. With plugins, you need only pick ones you’d like for your server, install them, and you’re good to go. Players can join a server with plugins just the same as they would be able to without.

Running Vanilla Minecraft currently?
You must be running Paper, Spigot, or CraftBukkit in order to run plugins on your Minecraft server as vanilla Minecraft does not support them. If you're not sure what server type you're running, you can check on your Prisma Overview.
This guide can help you change your server type.

Not sure where to find plugins?
The best place to look is typically on the website associated with the server type you’re using. For example, if you’re using Paper or Spigot, you’ll want to check out Spigot’s Resources area here: https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/

Can I use the Plugin Installer in Prisma?
Of course! The installer is great for quick use with single plugins. However, we strongly encourage you you to do research on which plugins will best suit your needs before you begin installing any and all plugins that look ideal from this area. Typically, the more plugins you install, the more memory you'll need. Also, not every plugin will be up-to-date or compatible with your server/other plugins you're using. Be sure to take a look at each plugin's documentation so you know exactly what will work best for your needs so you really know whether or not it's something you'll want to go forward with installing.

How to Install Plugins using the Plugin Explorer

If you already know exactly what you’re looking for, you already have your server type set accordingly for plugin use, and you’d like to take the easy route of installing the latest available version of a plugin off of Spigot, just follow the steps below:

  1. Log into your Prisma account here: https://prisma.cubedhost.com/login
  2. Once you have logged in, select the server you wish to update.
  3. Select the “Stop” button and wait for your server status to show as “Stopped”.
  4. Before you go any further, be aware… If you’re experimenting with new plugins or ones you’re unfamiliar with, we encourage you to back up your server before you proceed. Some plugins are broken and may cause issues on your server. While we do have backups available, you may lose progress if a plugin corrupts your server.
  5. If you’re ready to proceed, navigate to “CUSTOMIZE” > “PLUGINS”.
  6. On this page, you’ll find the Plugin Explorer. Use the search function to search for the plugin you wish to install.
  7. Once you’ve found the plugin, select it and then select the “Install” button.
  8. Prisma will notify you once the plugin is installed and it will end up showing within your “Installed Plugins” list on the right. You can uninstall the plugin by simply clicking on the trash can icon beside it.
  9. Start your server.
  10. The plugin(s) you’ve installed should be active!

If you see "Installation Failed" or can't find the plugin you're looking for but it's available on Spigot's website, try installing it manually using the directions below.

How to Install Plugins Manually

Plugins that fail to install can still be installed manually by clicking the "Website" text on the plugin's page, then downloading the plugin from there. Alternatively, you can download plugins from Spigot or Bukkit's websites. If the download comes in a .ZIP file (such as EssentialsX), please extract it before proceeding. All plugins should be uploaded as .JAR files.

  5. If you’re ready to proceed, navigate to “CUSTOMIZE” > “FILE MANAGER”.
  6. This will take you to your FTP. Double-click the "plugins" folder. If this folder isn't there, you'll need to make sure your server is set to Paper, Spigot, or Bukkit, and restart the server once so it will create a plugins folder. Then, stop the server again before proceeding.
  7. Locate the plugin(s) you just downloaded, and drag and drop them into Prisma. Alternatively, you can click "Choose Files" at the top to upload them.
  8. You'll see an upload window pop up. Once the upload is complete, start the server.
  9. The plugins should finish installing and will create folders which contain the configuration files for the plugins.

Can I use FTP instead of the File Manager?
You can! If you're looking to upload several plugins at once, using an external FTP manager may actually be more ideal. You'll find your FTP details under the "ADVANCED" menu in Prisma, then connect using a client such as WinSCP or FileZilla, and upload files into the plugins folder on your server. Be sure to let all uploads complete before you start your server.
